PANTRY REPORT/ SHORTAGES AS OF JUNE 20

Shortages in sorted food, in order of need, are: (1) canned soup, (2) “meals in a can” (canned stew, canned pasta, chili, etc), (3) canned fruit, and (4) pasta.

In addition, we need: baby formula equivalents/substitutes for US-produced Similac Blue and Similac Orange (Sensitive). (Special thanks to those who are locating and donating imported formula! – The main US producer was cleared to start up again three weeks ago, but shortages are expected to persist for weeks.) We also need diapers sizes 4, 5 and 6, baby wipes, and Pediasure, as well as Ensure for adults, and adult unisex pullups size large.

PAPER GROCERY BAGS (TRADER JOE SIZE OR SIMILAR) ARE NOW IN VERY SHORT SUPPLY. CAN YOU HELP? Plastic newspaper bags and plastic grocery bags are always needed. Plastic 12-egg cartons are very much needed. Other 12 or 6 unit containers are useful as back-ups. (18 and 24-egg containers are too large for our distribution).

NOT needed at this time: canned vegetables (we still have enough for close to nine weeks).

Over the week ending at close of business 20 June, we received approximately 1.82 tons of non-perishable food. With this and current reserves we expect to cover the 27 June distribution, with the projected shortages for 4 and 11 July distributions. (Baby formula and other items mentioned afterwards are short for next week.)

We gave out approximately 2.16 tons of non-perishable food, and somewhat more perishable food (bread and pastries, fresh vegetables and fruit, etc. – primarily donated by local stores) to 222 families in the week ending on Monday, 20 June. As always, special thanks go to all those helping us to help our neighbors in need!
