PANTRY REPORT AND SHORTAGES AS OF AUGUST 8

Updated: Aug 22

PANTRY REPORT/ SHORTAGES AS OF 8 AUGUST: Thanks to increased donations, our food reserves dropped only slightly this past week, and last minute deliveries covered our shortages for this past Monday, in spite of client numbers hitting a new 13-month high. Thanks to all who helped! (Please keep it up!)

We have insufficient of the following to cover next week: (1) dry, unsweetened cereal, (2) canned fruit, (3) pasta sauce, and (4) pasta. Additional shortages for the 15 August distribution: (5) “meals in a can” (stew, canned pasta, chili, etc.), (6) dry rice/beans, and (7) canned beans. (We continue to reduce distribution of canned soup as food reserves remain at a minimum.)

In addition, we need: baby formula equivalents/substitutes for US-produced Similac Blue and Similac Orange (Sensitive). (Particular thanks to those who are locating and donating imported formula – for the second week we had enough for those needing it – only the second time since February!) We also need diapers sizes newborn, 5 and 6, baby wipes, and Pediasure, as well as Ensure for adults, and adult unisex pullups sizes small, medium and large.

Paper grocery bags (Trader Joe size or similar) remain in short supply. Can you help? Plastic newspaper bags and plastic grocery bags are always needed. Plastic 12-egg cartons are very much needed. Other 12 or 6 unit containers are useful as back-ups. (18 and 24-egg containers are too large for our distribution).

Over the week ending at close of business 8 August, we received approximately 2.29 tons of non-perishable food. Shortages noted are for the next two weeks, except baby formula and other items mentioned afterwards are short now.

We still have enough canned vegetables for over five weeks, however, for the 29 August distribution everything else is short.

We gave out approximately 2.31 tons of non-perishable food, and somewhat less perishable food (bread and pastries, fresh vegetables and fruit, etc. – primarily donated by local stores) to 237 families in the week ending 8 August. As always, special thanks go to all those helping us to keep St. Martin’s Pantry in operation!
