Shortages in order of need: (1) dry unsweetened cereal, (2) “meals in a can”: (stew/canned pasta/chili/etc.), and (3) pasta sauce.
Also needed: Similac Blue, diapers sizes 3, 4, 5 and 6, and baby wipes. Also Pediasure and Ensure for adults.
Plastic newspaper bags and plastic grocery bags are always needed. Paper grocery bags are also needed.. Plastic egg cartons of the 6 unit or 12 unit sizes are especially needed.
NOT needed at this time: tuna/canned meat/canned fish, or mac and cheese (at current projected client numbers we have over 12 weeks supply of each on hand, or canned vegetables (currently almost 9 weeks supply on hand).
We received perhaps a bit less than a ton of non-perishable food over the week up until 3 January. With this and current reserves we expect to cover 10 and 17 January projected distributions, with the above projected shortages for the 24 January distribution.
We gave out some two-tenths of a ton of non-perishable food, and about the same amount of perishable food (bread and pastries, fresh vegetables and fruit, etc. – primarily donated by local stores) to 18 desperate souls who made it to the Pantry in the snow on Monday 3 January. This was our smallest distribution on record (of course, not counting when we closed completely). Special thanks to the hardy volunteers who made it in.
