Dear St. Martin’s Parishioners,
If you are reading this on Saturday morning, I invite you to join us on our parish pilgrimage in this Jubilee Year of Hope today at 12:00pm. We will meet by the CVS at Montgomery Village Center located at 19201 Centerway Rd. in Montgomery Village. From there we walk two miles to St. John Neumann Parish to pass through the holy doors and gain the plenary indulgence. We hope to have some transportation waiting at St. John Neumann to bring people who may need a ride back to Montgomery Village Center.
Happy Feast Day of St. Martin of Tours! This Sunday all the Masses are celebrated in honor of our patron saint, culminating in a special 5:00pm trilingual feast day Mass. After Mass, you are invited to the school gymnasium for a special production on the life of St. Martin of Tours produced by our theater ministry.
We transfer the feast of St. Martin, which is November 11, to this Sunday. His feast day, known as Martinmas, has long been an important one. It is traditionally the first day of winter and the day of the great harvest feast with new wine. Advent, which used to be about forty days, began the day after St. Martin’s Day. Various treaties to end wars have been signed on November 11, most notably the Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I. As we pray for peace in our world, especially in Ukraine and the Holy Land, St. Martin is an excellent intercessor to turn to in this moment.
In Christ,
Fr. Dave
