Dear St. Martin’s Parishioners,
This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, also known as the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. Without a doubt, the Eucharist is the heart of our parish. Your priests work hard here: ten Sunday Masses and two or three daily Masses, with confession multiple times a day. What is all that for? It’s so an increasing number of people may receive the Eucharist worthily for their eternal salvation. It is such a joy for a priest to see people who are well-disposed and spiritually aware receive Holy Communion reverently and frequently. Moreover, Jesus is overjoyed, because he was the one who left us his Body and Blood to feed us and transform us into himself.
In addition to Masses and confessions, our Eucharistic adoration chapel draws hundreds of people a week to pray face to face before our Lord. The time spent in adoration and reparation in the chapel has immense benefits for those that pray there and for the whole Church. Many of our parish prayer groups also schedule times of Eucharistic adoration during their meetings or for special events and retreats. During the day, people frequently stop in the church from off the street to spend some time with Jesus. My desire is for more of our parishioners to encounter Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament, and that they be drawn to adore him, love him, plead before him, trust him, and intercede for their family and friends with him.
Join us this Sunday, immediately following the 9am Mass, for a Eucharistic procession to celebrate Corpus Christi, starting at the front of the Church, proceeding through Fr. Meyer Field, and concluding with benediction at the Sisters’ convent.
Next Saturday, June 13, we will offer our Saturday morning Eucharistic holy hour to the honor of the Sacred Heart. Join us from 9:30am-10:30am in the church for this special time of adoration, which coincides with the bishops of the United States’ consecration of the country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the nation’s 250 anniversary.
Lastly, I want to thank all our parishioners who helped to plan and host our parish picnic. This was a gargantuan effort that included the celebration of Mass on the field, followed by music, food and games until late in the afternoon. The food was delicious, the atmosphere joyful and fun, and the music excellent. So many people donated items for the picnic, cooked food for over a thousand people, and volunteered their time to make it enjoyable for the whole family. I am so grateful for your generosity and love of our parish!
In Christ’s Eucharistic Heart,
Fr. Dave
