Dear St. Martin’s Parishioners,
Next weekend we’ll be invaded by Colorado Springs! Fr. Ian White, who spent the last two years at St. Martin’s as a seminarian, was ordained a priest on June 6 for the Diocese of Colorado Springs. We’re thrilled to have him return to the parish to celebrate the 7:00am Mass on June 21. Another priest of Colorado Springs who served here as a seminarian, Fr. Sean O’Connor, will celebrate the 9:00am and 10:30am Masses next Sunday.
On Friday, June 12, we celebrated the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and on Thursday, June 11, the bishops of the United States consecrated the nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In honor of this consecration for our nation’s 250 anniversary, we dedicated our Saturday morning holy hour to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the same vein, we also invite families to enthrone the Sacred Heart of Jesus in their home. This involves displaying an image of the Sacred Heart in a prominent place in your house. In addition, the family prays preparatory prayers in the days leading up to the enthronement, concluding with a special ceremony for the enthronement itself. We are blessed to have the English, French, and Spanish Legions of Mary coordinating with families to acquire the Sacred Heart image and provide you with the prayers for the enthronement. If your family would like to enthrone the Sacred Heart of Jesus in your home, please call the parish office, and the Legion of Mary representative will be in touch with you to schedule the enthronement.
The devotion to the Sacred Heart stretches back centuries and focuses on the love of God manifested in Jesus’ human heart. Our Lord’s heart suffered indescribably because of our sins, yet he only responded with greater degrees of love. Finally, his heart was pierced on the cross, and from his pierced heart flowed blood and water, which are the source of all sacramental graces. The heart of Jesus is inflamed with love of God the Father and love of poor sinners. He desires to unite our broken and sorrowful hearts to his infinitely loving heart so that, once healed, our hearts, too, may be inflamed with love of God.
In the hearts of Jesus and Mary,
Fr. Dave
