Social Concerns Asuntos Sociales

Please join us this Monday, June 8th at 12 noon at Lafayette Square across from the White House to Prayerfully Protest Racism in our Nation and for George Floyd and his family

Please join the Catholic faithful in a public witness to pray for the soul of George Floyd and the soul of America. Join local Catholic bishops, clergy and lay faithful as we pray and move with Christian solidarity to lift our country up in prayer. Let us gather to rededicate ourselves to the defense of all life and recommit ourselves to an anti-racism agenda.

Our mission: to pray for a change of heart, an end to hatred and institutional discrimination of all kinds.

The plans for the protest are as follows: we will assemble at Lafayette Park beginning from 11:00 am on Monday June 8. At exactly noon, we will begin with prayer and move in prayer toward the White House.

Things you may need:

· Clergy and Religious, please wear cassock, habit, or black clerical shirt.

· Do not forget to grab a bottle of water and a hat/cap.

· You are welcome to bring appropriate signs /posters.

DC Archbishop Gregory Discusses Racism & Faith at Georgetown University

Catholic Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Washington, DC participated in a dialogue with others concerning the ongoing protests across the nation that were sparked by the death of George Floyd while in police custody. He called Mr. Floyd’s death and others before him an assassination due to the color of their skin. Archbishop Gregory also spoke about why he publicly criticized the president’s visits to St. John’s Episcopal Church and St. John Paul II National Shrine. Georgetown University hosted this virtual event.

Rental Assistance Program for COVID-19

Montgomery County is offering three months partial rent support to low-income tenants who lost income due to COVID-19. Applications and documents must be submitted to the Housing Opportunities Commission by 2 p.m. on June 5.

Emergency Assistance Relief Payment (EARP)

What is the Emergency Assistance Relief Payment (EARP) Program?

Recognizing that the COVID-19 pandemic is causing an unprecedented financial hardship for many Montgomery County residents, the Emergency Assistance Relief Payment is a program that provides immediate financial assistance to households in need. While the need is great, this program seeks to fill the gaps for those who are not eligible or who will not benefit directly from the federal or state COVID-19 aid.

Stimulus Checks

Catholic Charities launches program to help parish families get their stimulus checks.

As you know, many individuals and families (with Social Security Numbers) are receiving sizable cash payments from the IRS. The IRS cash payments are part of the Government’s $2 Trillion economic stimulus legislation.  Sadly, there are many individuals and families who will not be receiving these cash payments. Why? The reason is that the IRS has no way of knowing that individuals and families with low/no income exist. Individuals with income less than $12,200/year ($24,400 for married couples) do not need to file an income tax return. Thus, the IRS does not have a mailing address or a bank account to send these cash payments.

El Progama De Pago De

Ayuda De Emergencia  (EARP)?
