New stimulus bill contains provisions that will help immigrant families where at least one adult has a Social Security Number.
The stimulus bill signed into law late December allows stimulus funds to be given to families where at least one adult has a Social Security number. (Families with one parent with Social Security and one without documents were denied stimulus funds last year.)
The new Economic Impact Payments authorizes not only the $600 stimulus for an adult this year, but enables families to retroactively receive the $1200 from last year.
Parishioners who need assistance to claim these benefits are invited to email the Catholic Charities VITA program. This program will assist families to file their taxes and receive this year and last year’s stimulus benefit checks. Bilingual staff and volunteers are available to assist parishioners.

EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE RELIEF PAYMENTS (EARP) PROGRAM
Recognizing that the COVID-19 pandemic is causing an unprecedented financial hardship for many Montgomery County residents, the Emergency Assistance Relief Payment is a program that provides immediate financial assistance to households in need. While the need is great, this program seeks to fill the gaps for those who are not eligible or who will not benefit directly from the federal or state COVID-19 aid.
